Canon EOS Rebel T3i / 600D Digital Field Guide (Digital Field Guides) Review

At the time of this writing, there are only two books about the Canon T3i available on Amazon. With both (Kindle editions) being sold at $9.99, I would have to say that the Digital Field Guide is the MUCH better deal. It's clear, concise, well-illustrated. It gives examples, and provides photos for better understanding of concepts. You won't need to go back and forth between this and the manufacturer's manual because this book tells you everything you need to know. If this had been available earlier (I believe it came out just a few days ago!), I might have ended up buying and reading this one first. I probably wouldn't have needed to search for anything more. Highly recommended, especially for the DSLR novice who wants a great book that will tell you everything!

Portare' Pbp2-O Multi Use Camera Laptop iPad Backpack, Orange Review

I just got back from Carnaval in Brazil, I took the Portare' bag with me (despite advice to the contrary) and it was the PERFECT companion. It was the perfect decoy and all my gear came back safely with me. Not only that, but the padding kept my stuff safe, and unscratched in the parades there. I was able to carry a change of clothes, shoes, essentials, water, AND all my camera gear with a kit and a wide angle lens. I used it all day, and can vouch for the back comfort. It also kept my back dry in the heat in Rio. It's also awesome that I was able to get it in a color other than black. I couldn't ask for more in a bag.

Canon D-SLR Shooting Modes (Camera Bag Companions) Review

Excellent tiny reference book for Canon DSLRs, but too tiny for my eyes. I'm 45 and my eyes are starting to go. If you have any vision problems, I don't recommend this book, BUT its content is just what you need on the go.

Kata KT D-3N1-20 Sling/Backpack (Black) Review

I am only reviewing cause there aren't very many reviews of this bag for some reason anywhere. I have had it for about two weeks now. There is some video out there from [...] or something. You can find it on the kata website and it does a decent job of showing you the features.
Pros:
1. Many ways to wear it. Sling, backpack, x - straps across your chest like an x. I primarily wear as backpack and sling.
2. Looks pretty cool.
3. Lots of buckles so you don't have to zip it up if you know you are going to take another pic soon.
4. I really like the top handle for some reason. Cushioned and easy to grab.
5. Inside dividers are changeable and good.
6. Yellow insides makes easy to see stuff.
Cons
1. Wish it had a water pocket, but that is really just my preference.
2. Wish it had a pocket or something on the outside you didn't have to zip to get to.
3. This is what I took one star off for which is my only real complaint since the other two are just wishes - the material doesn't breathe very well so it gets hot on my back which isn't a huge complaint, but it is a complaint none the less. I wish it was more breathable or like Osprey backpacks, had mesh to let air in. Kata, if you are listening, go look at those Osprey backpacks which I use for hiking/overnighters cause they are awesome.
I got this one after thinking of getting a Lowe Slingshot 200 for a while. Friend of mine has that one and he likes it but I thought it wouldn't be comfortable to have on all day. He uses it for travel and thinks the sling aspect is great. I agreed with him about the sling, but didn't want to have to have it on one strap all day long. So when I saw this one, I got excited. It does what it is designed to do pretty well. Sling aspect works. There are multiple cushions on each of the two straps which are changeable with buckles on the bottom of the bag. So you can have one strap and act as a sling, two straps in either x-across the chest format or as a backpack. I think I made a good choice. Might get the bigger one just cause as a pretty big guy, this looks a little ridiculous on me cause of its size.
As for what I carry, I don't carry much. Just got into photography. Canon 40D, one zoom lens but small one, one other lens sometimes. Still plenty of room to stick a flash, another lens, maybe another camera body but it would have to be without the lens attached. There is space for other stuff in the top pocket like a notebook, some other accessories. Two side pockets too.
Overall, a good bag which is saying a lot cause I have a thing for bags.

Kata KT D-3N1-20 Sling/Backpack (Black) Overview

Why choose between a backpack and a sling when you simply can pick up one of the new Kata 3N1 bags and get the best features of each type of bag? These unique bags provide ultimate freedom designed with three carrying options in one bag: right-handed sling, left-handed sling and backpack. Quick access to a camera has never been faster with a sling that offers a quick release and one-handed bag opening for camera access. Left-handed photographers can celebrate as they discover the first photo bag that can be configured as a left-handed sling. When not in a situation that requires quick camera access, convert the 3N1 into an ergonomic and comfortable backpack. All these product features come in a package that includes the unique combination of protection, light weight and style that has become Kata's calling card. In sling position, the bag easily swings around from back to front providing quick draw access to your main camera & accessories via a quick release clip with single pull opening of the camera compartment door. In standard backpack position and "X" position (both straps crisscrossed over the user's chest) you can comfortably carry your equipment for long distance walking when needed. The included balancing hip strap helps take the load of your heavy equipment off your shoulders. The 3N1-20 is designed to fit a D/SLR with mid-range zoom lens attached and 3-4 extra lenses with accessories.

AmazonBasics Backpack for SLR Cameras and Accessories (Black) Review

UPDATE AS OF 1/9/11:
This bag is still doing wonderful, but I thought I should update you guys on the gear it is holding. Currently, it is holding my Canon Rebel XTi (w/ battery grip), Canon EF 70-300mm USM, Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Canon EF 28-80mm, and Canon EF-S 18-55mm. As well, it is holding my Canon ZR930 MiniDV camcorder, Canon Rebel 2000 film SLR, filters, pouch of accesories such as chargers, memory card reader, etc, and a few little items. This bag seems to hold whatever you throw at it! Still a 5 star bag!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I added a video to this review to show the amounts of gear able to be stored in this bag.
I have been looking to purchase a camera backpack for my SLRs, lenses, and other accessories, and I had narrowed it down to the Canon 200EG backpack. I loved the compact size to the bag, but the large area inside for about two bodies (a must) as well as excess room for lenses. I tried the bag out at Best Buy, and I was about ready to purchase it on Amazon, until this bag came up as a recommended choice. It looks identical to the Canon, but without the giant 'steal me' Canon logo. Reviews for this bag backed up my choice, so I figured I would try this baby out, and if I din't like it, just return it for the Canon.
Little did I know, this bag exceeded my expectations with features much better than the 200EG. For one, the extra padding on the shoulder straps. You also get a belt strap to support your back with heavy gear. I'm about 5'3" and the bag fits snug and comfortably.
The exterior is made of a durable material, which should hold up against rain. The interior is padded very nicely to secure your gear in the bumpiest of my bike rides, which is nice. The zippers are sturdy, although I wish they were easier to put a lock onto. Lets talk about what this bad boy can hold. I am able to fit my DSLR Canon Rebel XTi (w/ battery grip) in the main slot, my film Rebel 2000 infront of the XTi, my PowerShot P&S, my MiniDV camcorder, 75-300mm telephoto lens, 28-80mm walk-around lens, and 18-55mm kit lens, with room to spare! In the meantime, I keep my chargers, minidv tapes, and remotes in the open spot. That is until I invest in a flash unit. If you pack everything right, you can easily pack three SLR bodies, three lenses, a P&S, and other gear in the bag. The top mounted pockets is home to my filters, memory cards, cables, and cloths. The side of the bag can hold a tripod safe and securely. You can also find spots for a phone, or even fit a small notebook pc (more likely a netbook) in the main pocket. Which is nice considering there is no laptop slot.
All in all, this bag is highly recommended in my opinion. Keep it in mind in your searches, and don't click away because it is Amazon branded. It's higher quality than my old Lowepro!
