What The Best Does The Best - A Micro SD 32GB Memory Card

By Joseph Rose

A micro 32 GB card could well be a very good choice for you. These cards have a huge amount of space, which you can use for a variety of your different storage needs. There is no longer any need to have to put up with insufficient amounts of memory on your memory card. With a memory storage capacity of 32 GB there is a vast amount of space to put whatever files, music or movies that you want on this memory card.

With a 32GB micro SD card, you can access memory that almost appears limitless. 32 gigabytes is too big a space to be consumed quickly by just mp3's and pictures, because each picture has an average size of about 2 MB while an MP3 file is normally just 3 megabytes in size. There is room enough for you to put a picture or an MP3 when you need to, and it won't run out that quick. So you can just take pictures at will or stuff MP3's into your player without worrying about the remaining space on the memory.

Is it possible that you are continuously finding that you need to transfer pictures and media over so you can create more space on your flash disk? If you have large enough disk space, this will not be a problem any more, as you will not have to transfer files nearly as often as you may have to now. There is enough room to take loads of pictures, and you will not have to sacrifice all your already existing files that are already on your memory card, just to get rid of new ones. There is an abundance of memory on these 32 GB cards.

It is also possible that you have experienced running out of space on your memory card, when you have an MP3 file that you want to save. Again, this will not happen when you have a large amount of space such as the 32 GB card offers.

However, by buying a Micro SD 32 gb Sandisk memory card, you can have room for new ones and still keep the already existing MP3's in your player. You can't possibly expect to eat up 32 gigabytes worth of MP3's in such a short time after all, even if you put some videos together with them.

There are different reasons why people upgrade to larger memory cards, such as a micro-SD 32 GB. This happens quite a lot, regardless of the price being a bit higher than a small memory card on the market.

On-Camera Flash Techniques for Digital Wedding and Portrait Photography Review

Disclaimers:
1. I do know Neil van Niekerk
2. I use very little flash
I've known Mr. Niekerk for more than a few years and there are few photographers for whom I have as much respect, personally or professionally.
While I am known for my "available light" work I do consider a mastery of light, be it available or supplemental, to be crucial for the production of great images.
Mr. Williams states, eloquently, in his foreword that we live in the age of the "quick-fix" during which period it really does seem to be de rigueur to eschew knowledge and learning.
If you recognize that "flash" is your weak point, or if you desire to improve your lighting skills & knowledge then I suggest that this book should not only be on your purchase list, at the top :), but also that you do spend the time reading, practicing and understanding the techniques and concepts presented in it, paying particular attention to Mr. van Niekerk's statement regarding manual exposure; "You decide. Not the camera." This is of key importance and is often overlooked or neglected
The book itself is very well written, using precise, unambiguous language leaving little, if any, room for misunderstanding. The chapter subjects are comprehensive.
The diagrams are clear and concise and each and every photograph in the book illustrates its point very clearly. My only issue with the foreword is that Mr. William's statement this "is a fantastic book" is that it is not in bold print!
It is indeed a fantastic book. It's not a quick fix, I don't believe it was ever intended to be one.
It does require reading and practice, after all practice does make perfect!

Some Commercial Photography Tips

By Shawn Smith

As an on-line or catalog retailer, you'll know the importance of having great stills to promote and present your goods and services in the right way. So finding the best commercial photographer is critical. It can make or break your business. Never underestime the power of what a good image can achieve for your business. In addition, for branding purposes, awareness and perception can be made with a the right image from a commercial photographer.

Never underestimate the power of what a top product image can achieve. These are some tips to do with commercial photography.

- Be prepared by doing your research and have a brief outline of the goals that wish to attain. This can refer to the branding of your company or services that you're offering to potential clients.

- Define your budget and if you have got any restrictions. Commercial photography isn't cheap and is an investment into your future. You'll need to advise any potential photographer of your financial position. A good photographer will keep this under consideration and advocate an approach that will keep within budget and start you in the right direction.

- Submit your brief with a timeline and make sure the professional photographer follows the brief. Have checkpoints so that a job isn't completed and you're unhappy. Checkpoints allow you to make suggestions on the way.

- If you've a brand and a current catalogue of work, then make sure the photographer can see what you have. The photographer can then look at how they can work and keep within any branding requirements.

- The most significant thing is to make sure you've got a clear idea of the larger picture. Know what you're after and ask the photographer to develop a couple of ideas. Be open to their concepts but ensure they understand what you're after and searching for.

202 Digital Photography Solutions : Solve Any Digital Camera Problem in Ten Minutes or Less Review

202 Digital Photography Solutions contains much useful information for anyone wanting to learn more about photography, including topics often barely touched on by similar books, e.g., caring for lenses. Yet the reader is not overwhelmed by useless detail. The information is well chosen and well organized, and the numbered "tips" layout is easy to follow.
There are two problems with this book. One is that the author's somewhat offbeat sense of humor eventually begins to grate on the reader's nerves. Must every pun and play on words be explored? He'll warn about creating "dark shadows" and then add ("like the tv series"). And on and on.
The other problem is a more serious one. The sample photos are all in black and white, and are so badly printed that they detract from the book's effectiveness. There is nothing visual to inspire the reader or amateur photographer. Eventually one may wonder why, if the author knows so much about photography, his photos are so bad?

Digital Wedding Photography Review

The first thing one notices about Paul Gero 's new book, Digital Wedding Photography, is the stunning photographs. It's not just that they are stunning; you'd expect a book about photography to have good photographs. These images have a certain quality: a freshness, they are real, exuberant. You know these moments are not staged, made to look romantic, like a fashion shoot or a pretend wedding. Yet, every photograph evokes beauty and emotion. It's more than composition, though that is impeccable, no unnecessary information but the essentials. They are about life, a real story.
On the practical side the book is well organized starting with equipment, then discusses organizing your shoot and yourself to actually photograph a wedding. Gero talks about what makes a great photograph, the different styles and approaches. Chapter three and four goes over what events make up a wedding day and what to look for and organize your story around visually. He emphasizes the art of visual storytelling, discussing the broad strokes as well as the details. Sprinkled thorough out are technical tips and tricks that he has learned and developed over the years.
As a long time photojournalist now doing wedding photography myself, Gero's first four chapters were an affirmation of the fine work being done in this growing field of documentary wedding photography. What I needed was a bit of technical help. I went digital two years ago and every day I learn something new. The second half of Digital Wedding Photography filled a HUGE bill on the technical side and I have poured over the advice and step-by-step walk-through techniques. With each new technique I found myself saying, "So that's how you do that!" It sure beats my trial and error method. I began using his tips immediately.
In the last year or so I have bought at least 8 books and guides to wedding photography. Some good, others not so helpful. Paul Gero's book is most definitely number one on my list. Enthusiastically agree with reviewer DJL.

Magic Lantern Guides: Sony DSLR A100 Review

Why a major consumer electronics manufacturer's instruction manual for a new market entry product (DSLR) should require translation from inscrutable japlish into plain english words is incomprehensible -- yet this Guide (unfortunately) is critical to help english-speakers make sense of the "Alpha's" numerous great features. Simple things, like why a menu is greyed out unless you press another button, become clear. In-camera processing with different scene settings finally makes sense, as do the versatile saturation and contrast settings, and the 'dynamic range optimizer'.
This is NOT a guide to taking digital pictures -- the pocket-sized book's simple mission is how to make the most of a complex electronics device; and it succeeds exceedingly well, except for a few stumbles. My greatest disappointment is that the arcane concept of trailing shutter curtain flash synchronization' is well told, but not at all clarified by a simple picture comparing the first curtain versus second curtain flash sync effect on an object in motion. Otherwise, most illustrations (all black/white) make a distinct point such as 'highlight burnout' when exposing for a bride in a white wedding gown. The alpha's infamously unacceptable digital noise at ISO settings beyond 400 is straightforwardly addressed; as are the head-scratching LO-80 and HI-200 settings that may be just what you needed (but didn't know you did).
This Guide succeeds where the manufacturer's poorly printed and largely incomprehensible manual failed so miserably [Sony's warranty, by contrast, is in crystal clear english, leaving no uncertainty as to how limited your rights are]. This guide didn't get five stars because the index is weak; certainly unhelpful for a beginner. Also, Sony's software RAW converter could have been given more of the detail and hints for optimized settings found elsewhere in the Guide.

Magic Lantern Guides: Sony DSLR A100 Overview

A guide to what is expected to be a top-selling camera in 2007! The Sony A100 is the first digital single-lens-reflex camera from the manufacturer of the world's best-selling digital cameras. It has Super SteadyShot anti-shake image stabilization, and sports a 10 megapixel APS-C CCD with anti-dust sensor cleaning technology; a Minolta A lens mount; and eyestart autofocus-to name the more notable of many innovative features.

Advantages of Macro Mode in Digital Cameras.

By Dmitry Vasenyov

Digital cameras give an opportunity even for beginners to realize in practice great opportunities of macro mode. Most digital cameras in the "macro" mode can photograph from close ranges, up to 1-5 cm. Therefore, the photographer is able to capture enough close-up small objects - flowers, insects, coins...

Photography at very close distance - is one of the showy creative techniques even for a novice user. A little experience, a little patience - and you will obtain diverse topics and very spectacular images. Having gazed carefully into the world of nature close-up, you are able to capture the peculiar scenes with well developed fine details and rich texture of objects. These stills usually cause a great interest in the audience.

It is distinguished general, medium and large plans photography. The general plan is suitable, for instance, when working on the scenery, the medium - shooting a person in full-length and portraits are typically done close-up. Very close-up plan is rarely applied; it is widespread, most of all, in the cinematograph. It allows you to capture parts of the face, most often - the eyes.

More close-up photography belongs to the macro shooting. In this case the object is photographed almost full size, i.e. the linear dimension of the optical image is close to the linear size of the object. At the same time on the print, made, of course, with zoom, you may see much more detail than when observing the object with the usual distance. The optimum distance is considered to be equal to an average of 250 mm.

Undoubtedly, the digital camera will fit for very close-up shooting. Most models are usually equipped with a special mode that allows you to shoot enlarged plan (from a distance of several centimeters) without special tools. Some cameras have even two subranges - "macro" and "super macro".

Focus On Apple Aperture: Focus on the Fundamentals (Focus On Series) Review

I have had Aperture for some time, but have found it frustrating to use in some respects compared to Adobe Lightroom. This book was helpful for me learning how to navigate Aperture's features and tools and accomplish some actions (like applying some settings to multiple pictures) as well as adding keywords to groups of images. This book enabled me to do a fair amount of editing within Aperture allowing me to process images and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of Aperture compared to Lightroom.
This is well suited to novice Aperture users and explains the processes and tools of this powerful program. I won't say this is the most elegantly written book, it did serve (and will continue to serve) as a reference and guide to my use of Apple's program.

Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash Review

I have been an antique camera collector for many years, and I just love the old Kodak line of Brownie Box cameras. Particularly this camera (the Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash) which I believe was produced sometime in the late 1950's and perhaps early 1960's. The one I have is a later model, because of its plastic advance knob.
Despite a common misconception about this camera, YES you can indeed use 120 film, and despite another misconception no modifications to the spool are needed! The 120 spool fits quite nicely in the reserve part of the film chamber, and it is relatively easy to load the camera. However you do need to use an original 620 spool for the take up (be sure to ask the photofinisher to return the spool!) With this camera you will be able to get 12 shots on a standard roll of 120 film, the frames on the negative will be square (about 2 inches by 2 inches each frame). As a result, the prints themselves will also be square and will be typically printed out at 5 inches by 5 inches (depending on the photofinisher).
The picture quality is nothing short of amazing, very sharp and crisp, and yet at the same time a slight softness that you really can not achieve with a digital camera. The pictures that you can get out of this camera are far superior than anything you could ever hope to get out of a Holga, Diana (or any other of those plastic over-hyped, overpriced pieces of junk).
A couple of recommendations that I can offer in using the camera would be to use a slower speed of film (such as 100ISO or 160ISO) this is due to the camera's relatively slow shutter speed (which is about 1/30th sec), and the camera's aperture (which is about f11). With that said, as for ideal shooting conditions, I would recommend outdoors on a bright sunny or partly cloudy day, I suppose indoors (if you had some sort of flash) Also make sure to hold the camera really still (I would suggest using some sort of stand or tripod) to help steady the camera.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this camera if you are an antique camera collector, or you just want to experiment with 120 film without having to pay an arm or a leg, or jumping on the over-hyped Lomography bandwagon.

David Busch's Nikon D7000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography Review

This is a mammoth book at 550 pages, and has everything you could possibly want to know about the Nikon D7000, including many topics not covered in the other guides I looked at. I upgraded to the D7000 from my D90 and was very pleased with the author's D90 book. Although I had to wait a few extra months for this one,it was worth the wait. The most useful part for me was the 100 plus pages devoted to explaining every function of the menus, with plenty of detail on why you should select a particular option. The other books I looked at just repeated the information in the Nikon manual.
I also loved the entire chapter on autofocus, which on the D7000 is a bit different from the D90 I had before. Busch has information on exactly how autofocus works, both the "phase detection" system used with the optical viewfinder and the "contrast detection" system it switches to in Live View mode and when shooting movies. The chapter on shooting D-Movies also helped me a lot, because I never had fully explored the D90's movie capabilities, and the D7000 is much better. Thank you!

Canvas Print

By Jennifer Fox

For many eager photographers, getting a great shot is something that may take a long time and a lot of determination, and for those who are simply taking photographs to preserve a memory, then a number of these footage can come to have a special significance, and by moving that photo to canvas it then gives it a rather more enduring and crucial part it can take in a home, as it can then be mounted with pride on to any wall in the house.

One of the primary limitations of photographs includes how they can basically be shown. Though they can be outlined to a very high standard, they'll still customarily look shiny and lack the class that comes from having an image mounted on canvas. Another advantage of having a photo on canvas is that it can be framed using one of the more traditional and naturally more tasty picture frame rather than the less warm and less accessible photo frames that are typically available.

There's no arguing with the proven fact that size matters, and one of the key features that lead so many folk to selecting to have a photo canvas is that the quality of the image when used on canvas tends to hold up much better than a photo that has been noticeably enlarged and then made public in that way. As well as taking advantage of the bigger gallery frames that are generally accessible, a bigger photo canvas can become a loved and appreciated part of any room.

Another fact that leads to many folks selecting to have a photo on canvas rather than having it written on photo paper is that the final result that comes with it is much more elegant and will generally look better for most people that view the picture. There is not any doubt that the matte look that comes with having a photo on canvas will suit some photographs better than others, however it really does depend on the picture that is chosen as to how well the ultimate result will work out.

Having a dramatic or serious image that'll be crucial to people in years to come as it is today is something that should be kept and appreciated , but for modern digital photos this is an issue that it cannot be given full justice. By changing the photo to canvas then this is going to help this heavy and dramatic event be preserved forever for the years and years to come, and will give it a stylish and tasty setting which will make it a fabulous feature.

There are so many factors that will inspire someone to take a very good and fascinating photo, and to put that photo to canvas so that it can be enjoyed in the best possible way for the years to follow. It'll frequently be the situation that changing the media for a picture can improve the way that it looks and how it can be valued, and putting a photo on canvas will most likely be the most effective way for others to understand just how good a photograph really is.

David Busch's Canon Powershot G10/G11 Guide to Digital Photography Review

I have a Canon G11 and have a couple other books on the camera. I was reluctant to buy this book at first because I generally try to purchase guides that are specific to the model I own just to cut down on confusion. Don't let that stop you from buying this book! There is much in common between the G10 and G11 and the author does a great job of clearly pointing out the differences where they do exist.
The thing that I most like about this book is that not only does it tell you the function of every button and menu setting on your camera but it goes on to tell you why you may or may not want to use a particular setting in various shooting situations. The author is not dogmatic. He states his opinions but leaves you to draw your own conclusions.
I also really like the way the book is structured. The early chapters get you up to speed quickly so you can get out and take some pictures, which is why you bought this camera in the first place. When you start using the camera you will undoubtedly have more questions about some of the more advanced options on these very flexible cameras. The middle chapters go on to explain the functionality of the camera features in greater detail. The later chapters cover more general photography subjects like exposure, depth of field, flash use, etc., but geared toward these cameras specifically. There is also a pretty good run down of the accessories available as well as the included software apps.
It is a larger book than the guides intended to throw in your camera bag but the extra size and weight are put to good use. If I could only own one book on my G11 this one would be it. I highly recommend it!

Magic Lantern Guides: Nikon D3000 Review

It bothers me that camera's owners manuals become less detailed, explain less and less how to use the functions of your camera, are written for English speakers by non-English speakers (some of the instructions cause you to shake your head and you can't even begin to guess what in heck they were talking about) and now you usually get a "quick start" guide with the rest of the owners manual on a CD, and again, it's usually not as complete as you'd like it to be.
Get yourself a Magic Lantern guide for your specific model camera! It will tell you step-by-step in plain language what the controls of your camera do, and how to use them. Get Your Photography on the Web: The Fastest, Easiest Way to Show and Sell Your Work Review

I've been working at getting a class together on just the subject of putting a photo website up with WordPress for a couple of months. About the time I finished, I came across this book that had pretty much what I'd been working through. Isn't that the way it goes. Rafael Concepcion pointed out a couple of things I missed, so I am very happy to have gotten this. I think that he has done a good job of putting together a solid cookbook of steps that should get most people up and running in a reasonable amount of time.
Beyond the details of setting up the site itself, the book covers getting photos ready for web display. It's not difficult but paying attention to the instructions will give you the best quality/loading speed compromise.
Concepcion has done an admirable job of covering the bases when it comes to setting up a Wordpress photo site on Godaddy.com, which is not the simplest hosting service to navigate. One thing I should mention is that though Godaddy offers quality, low cost web hosting they will attempt to sell you a number of services that you probably don't need. Just say no to up-sells. Go with the account recommended in the book and ignore the rest.
The steps are thorough and well documented, including appropriate screen shots. The added website how-to videos are a good bonus. The recommended plugins for photo galleries are excellent as are the other recommended plugins. Coverage of WordPress photo themes and how to install them is good as is the free theme offered on the companion site to the book. No book of this size can cover every possible situation. And though WordPress is free, some themes aren't. You may choose to pay for a premium them and possibly some premium plugins. That's not a knock, many are excellent and include good support at reasonable prices. It's just a notice that not all is free in the WordPress universe. There is one real warning I should mention. Themes at some external (not wordpress.org) sites contain some nasty extra code that could spy on you or hijack your site. It's a growing problem in the WordPress world. None of the extras mentioned in the book should be problems.
That said, my experience is that people do have problems with WordPress that one can't predict. As a web designer I've gotten dozens of people into WordPress sites so they could update their own content. Most of them end up at one time or other needing a bit of help, even though they bought instruction books, have had private tutoring and watched videos. WordPress is probably the most user friendly content management system around that offers a wide degree of customization. However, that doesn't mean that it is actually drop-dead easy to use, just more so than the competition. Anyway, don't be surprised if as some point you may require some hand holding or outright help setting up or customizing WordPress. Then don't be surprised if you don't. The system is getting better and better.
All in all, this is a timely book. Many of my photographer friends are saying that they need a website and WordPress is a more flexible and search engine friendly solution than many of the Flash website builders around. Just go to a wedding photographer convention and see how many Flash based solutions are being sold. Concepcion does cover some Flash in a cursory way. You're better off not using it. iPads can't read Flash sites and lots of photo people are buying them. Even Android tablets don't yet have a good quality version of Flash yet. And for slide shows and galleries, Flash isn't necessary anyway.

Kata KT D-3N1-20 Sling/Backpack (Black) Review

I am only reviewing cause there aren't very many reviews of this bag for some reason anywhere. I have had it for about two weeks now. There is some video out there from [...] or something. You can find it on the kata website and it does a decent job of showing you the features.
Pros:
1. Many ways to wear it. Sling, backpack, x - straps across your chest like an x. I primarily wear as backpack and sling.
2. Looks pretty cool.
3. Lots of buckles so you don't have to zip it up if you know you are going to take another pic soon.
4. I really like the top handle for some reason. Cushioned and easy to grab.
5. Inside dividers are changeable and good.
6. Yellow insides makes easy to see stuff.
Cons
1. Wish it had a water pocket, but that is really just my preference.
2. Wish it had a pocket or something on the outside you didn't have to zip to get to.
3. This is what I took one star off for which is my only real complaint since the other two are just wishes - the material doesn't breathe very well so it gets hot on my back which isn't a huge complaint, but it is a complaint none the less. I wish it was more breathable or like Osprey backpacks, had mesh to let air in. Kata, if you are listening, go look at those Osprey backpacks which I use for hiking/overnighters cause they are awesome.
I got this one after thinking of getting a Lowe Slingshot 200 for a while. Friend of mine has that one and he likes it but I thought it wouldn't be comfortable to have on all day. He uses it for travel and thinks the sling aspect is great. I agreed with him about the sling, but didn't want to have to have it on one strap all day long. So when I saw this one, I got excited. It does what it is designed to do pretty well. Sling aspect works. There are multiple cushions on each of the two straps which are changeable with buckles on the bottom of the bag. So you can have one strap and act as a sling, two straps in either x-across the chest format or as a backpack. I think I made a good choice. Might get the bigger one just cause as a pretty big guy, this looks a little ridiculous on me cause of its size.
As for what I carry, I don't carry much. Just got into photography. Canon 40D, one zoom lens but small one, one other lens sometimes. Still plenty of room to stick a flash, another lens, maybe another camera body but it would have to be without the lens attached. There is space for other stuff in the top pocket like a notebook, some other accessories. Two side pockets too.
Overall, a good bag which is saying a lot cause I have a thing for bags.

Kata KT D-3N1-20 Sling/Backpack (Black) Overview

Why choose between a backpack and a sling when you simply can pick up one of the new Kata 3N1 bags and get the best features of each type of bag? These unique bags provide ultimate freedom designed with three carrying options in one bag: right-handed sling, left-handed sling and backpack. Quick access to a camera has never been faster with a sling that offers a quick release and one-handed bag opening for camera access. Left-handed photographers can celebrate as they discover the first photo bag that can be configured as a left-handed sling. When not in a situation that requires quick camera access, convert the 3N1 into an ergonomic and comfortable backpack. All these product features come in a package that includes the unique combination of protection, light weight and style that has become Kata's calling card. In sling position, the bag easily swings around from back to front providing quick draw access to your main camera & accessories via a quick release clip with single pull opening of the camera compartment door. In standard backpack position and "X" position (both straps crisscrossed over the user's chest) you can comfortably carry your equipment for long distance walking when needed. The included balancing hip strap helps take the load of your heavy equipment off your shoulders. The 3N1-20 is designed to fit a D/SLR with mid-range zoom lens attached and 3-4 extra lenses with accessories.

PowerShot S95 Review

The Canon PowerShot S95 is a serious contender and without doubt a great upgrade, especially with Christmas just around the corner. Check it out.
One look at Canon's new PowerShot S95 will have you moving "upgrade my digital camera" to the top of your to-do list. The ultra-slim, ultra-intelligent S95 is loaded with all a serious photographer's must-haves, including a bright f/2.0 wide-angle lens and professional-style control ring for intuitive manual control. Canon's HS System is on board for spectacular performance and image quality in low light.
Canon PowerShot digital camera highlights

And, new for a compact, the S95 incorporates Canon's Hybrid IS for blur-free shooting even close-up. You'll shoot stunning 720p HD video with stereo sound, then watch it immediately on your HDTV with the simple HDMI connection. If photography's your passion, now is the perfect time to step up to PowerShot S95.

Canon PowerShot S95 Highlights

Canon's HS System for improved low light performance and better image quality
The PowerShot S95 employs the Canon HS System by combining a powerful 10.0-megapixel CCD sensor and Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor. Thanks to this technological advancement, the S95 is dramatically more sensitive than cameras with identical megapixel counts, and delivers spectacular images with minimal noise. Increased sensitivity demands a higher ISO speed, and the PowerShot S95 delivers with a new maximum setting of ISO 12,800. Blur and camera shake are notably reduced for the ultimate in sharpness and clarity.

Canon PowerShot digital camera highlights

Shoot beautiful 720p HD video in stereo sound
The PowerShot S95 lets you record video in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD videos (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition TV monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 still images at once.

Canon PowerShot digital camera highlights

Control ring for intuitive manual control
Focus, Exposure, ISO, Step Zoom, or White Balance can now be adjusted more precisely than ever with the S95's control ring. It's even more intuitive and quicker than the usual 2-button control and the S95 lets you decide which function the ring will adjust.

Bright f/2.0 lens
The S95 sports an f/2.0 aperture, perfect for creating enticing portraits, by drawing attention to the face and blurring the background with its impressively shallow depth-of-field. The Macro setting lets you get even closer. The large aperture also does more. It lets you capture more nuances in low light shooting by using more of the available light. You'll be ready for anything with a lens aperture larger than even many professional sizes.

Canon's Hybrid IS to compensate for angular and shift camera shake during close-up shooting
Canon PowerShot digital camera highlights

The PowerShot S95 is one of the first compact cameras to be equipped with Canon's highly advanced Hybrid IS function, which corrects camera shake from two sources to deliver sharp, blur-free images even when you zoom in close to your subject.

Hybrid IS employs both an angular sensor and an accelerometer, enabling it to suppress both the blur caused by the angle of the camera and the "shift blur" that happens when your subject moves parallel to the camera, a problem that is especially noticeable at large zoom factors.

With the ability to produce clear, steady images in most situations and at any zoom length, the PowerShot S95 is the camera you'll want to take everywhere.

Full range of shooting and recording modes
The PowerShot S95's RAW mode lets you shoot images without JPEG compression. It gives you clearer images and complete creative control in editing. RAW images are transferred directly to the computer where they can then be edited using image adjustment software or a processing application to adjust your images as you please. The camera can also be set to allow the simultaneous recording of both RAW and JPEG images while shooting.

Also, with 26 Shooting Modes including 18 Special Scene Modes, you're ready for whatever shot comes your way.

3.8x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, plus a 28mm wide-angle lens
The PowerShot S95 features Canon's precision 28mm wide-angle 3.8x optical zoom lens that allows you to shoot most scenes from wide-angle to telephoto. It lets you capture more in every frame, so everyone fits in a family gathering shot. When it's time to take a closer look, the Canon Optical Image Stabilizer helps minimize camera shake and reveal almost every detail.

Digital Capture and Workflow for Professional Photographers Review

I give this book 3 stars, but that doesn't mean it's not worth buying. The author provides a straightforward process workflow for setting up your digital camera, exposing and capturing your shots, uploading and post processing your digital files, and preparing them for output to an album.
The problem with this book, however, is that it follows the guidelines of most Amerhest books. It's only 150 pages, and in many places the author could have added more information. I want to read more about how he sets up his filing system in Adobe Bridge (which is the file organizer he explains how to use.) I also wanted to know why he uses Bridge over say iView Media Pro? And it's interesting that he doesn't mention two of the big digital imaging applications on the market today: Adobe Lightroom and Apple's Aperature, both which handle RAW images faster and more efficiently than Adobe Bridge. If Bridge is all you have, then this might be a useful book.
The best chapters in this book are about setting up Photoshop actions for processing wedding photos. He explains about a dozen actions that should be a part of every wedding photographer's arsenal. He also explains how to use Adobe Camera Raw, mainly because he correctly encourages his readers that it's better to shoot in RAW mode than in JPEG.
I think Lee would have been better writing a three-part series about digital capture and workflow, simply because the process is so very important to how a photographer makes his or her money. If she lacks a good, solid workflow, she can start out making a $100-200/hour but end up making a lot less in the post-production process.
So yes, this book is worth reading if you're looking for answers to build your workflow, but it will leave you wanting to know more.

The Digital Photographer's Handbook: Travel (Digital Photographers Handbk 3) Review

I've always admired Simon's work. His photos in this book are amazing.
However, I did not feel that this book helped me improve my vacation photos one bit.
I think more time could be spent on how to compose specific types of scenes like water, mountains, people shots would have been helpful.
Other aspects like "how to tell a story" or "how to shoot photos in preparation for a great slideshow" would have been helpful.
So I really didn't get any help out of this book. At best I'd say study Simon's work and learn from it, but forget this book.

A New Gift Idea Is To Get Your Photo On Canvas

By Jeanette Parsons

It is an easy, quick and reasonably priced process to get your photo on canvas. A canvas that has been personalized will make a unique gift and keepsakes for family and friends. Unlike the usual special occasion and holiday snaps that are stuck in an album or hidden in a drawer. A canvas is like a piece of art and is meant to be put on display.

An internet search brings up a list of firms that provide this type of service. When selecting a supplier, knowing what to look for can help to ensure that you are satisfied with the results. Using the internet allows you to compare the service levels, terms and conditions and prices. All this can be done at the convenience of your own home.

Customer service agents are available through the website for online or phone assistance. They will be happy to provide advice on how to achieve the best results when you want to get the photo on material. They can provide answers to any of your questions about the product, process, price and their terms and conditions.

On the website, it is worth taking the time to have at look at how their quality control and guarantees work. You should also find instructions on after care and cleaning of the material, although you should receive a written copy with the finished result. Anyone from the customer service team can answer any further questions or clarify points you raise.

You do not need to be an expert photographer to have your photo transferred to canvas. Any minor blemishes and red eye are easily corrected using the website digital correction tools. Having the opportunity to use the image checking service, means you see what the finished material will actually look like.

The size and cost to get your photograph on canvas are important factors when deciding on a supplier. A website usually provides details of standard sizes and grades or canvas with the relevant prices. However, it is also possible to discuss any unique requests that may take longer to complete with a customer service team member.

Whether it is for a gift or for yourself, taking the time to pick out the right photograph is down to you. It is a great way of turning your precious moments into a work of art that you can display on the walls and see every day.

Fine Art Photography High Dynamic Range: Realism, Superrealism, and Image Optimization for Serious Novices to Advanced Di Review

Tony Sweet has long been admired for his imaginative approach to photography. In this book he turns his attention to HDR processing.
Although the book can be studied as a lovely portfolio, I found that Sweet's discussion of how he processed each image (or since this is HDR photography, series of images) added to my knowledge of this subject. Sweet discusses the use of two different pieces of software: HDR Soft's Photomatix and Nik's HDR Efex Pro. His discussions of each piece of software appear similar at first, but close examination shows a slight variation. For Photomatix he first describes the software itself, including a brief description of the effect of each slider. (His description of each of the functions is just different enough from the description the software itself provides when one rolls over a particular control to provide additional insights into its purpose.) He then provides a number of photographs, indicating in a chart the settings that he has changed from the default with his reason for the change. For example, for a particular picture, he states "Saturation: Default is 70, Set to 100 to add color to a very drab scene." Next he discusses the post-HDR processing that he used on the image, relying heavily on plug-ins like Nik Color Efex Pro Tonal Contrast and Viveza. Each example includes a film strip of the images captured, the picture as it emerges from Photomatix and a large picture of the image after post-HDR processing.
For HDR Efex Pro he changes his methodology a bit, using a narrative form rather than a chart of the changes that he made to the software default. I found this approach a little harder to understand, but that may have been because of my experience with Photomatix. (I was unable to follow his efforts as well as I would have liked because I was unable to successfully install the trial version of HDR Efex Pro on my Windows 7-64 bit machine; try the trial version before buying the software.) Even though the narrative alone did not seem as effective as the chart of changes, it should still prove useful in learning to use this software.
Sweet covers the full range of outcome from realistic to slightly surrealistic, but not all out surrealistic. His main emphasis in Photomatix is on Details Enhancer although there is an image processed in Exposure Fusion. Individuals who feared that the Details Enhancer could not provide realistic images should be able to achieve that goal after reading the book and may find that that Detail Enhancer offers a degree of control not found in Exposure Fusion.
The combination of the basic description of a function and the changes made, with an explanation of the reasons for the change worked for me. For example I never fully realized how the Photomatix microcontrast slider brought out details. As a result of his discussion about using Color Efex Pro Tonal Contrast, I decided to try that plug-in and now I am a confirmed believer.
The only thing I wish the book provided was a way to download a few of the images to follow along with the process described in the book, but even without this feature I found this book extremely helpful in honing my HDR skills. Even experienced HDR photographers may benefit from reading this book.

Real Estate Photography Tips / Techniques And How You Can Do It

By Denise Bramly

Selling property can be a difficult task. Clients have so many options open to them that they might not even consider property that does not immediately appeal to them. If this is the case where your business is concerned, you might want to take some real estate photography tips and techniques so that your properties appeal more to different clients.

Taking pictures of homes entails more than simply taking out your camera and snapping away. There is a certain art to it and if you can do it well, then you can enhance the best features of a house and increase the chances that someone will view it.

Taking pictures involves using the light to your advantage. There are certain times in the day when the light is perfect for this. Twilight is one of the most popular times to photograph a home because it makes the home and its surrounding area look more appealing. This is the time of day when the sky is a shade of many different colors and it looks almost magical.

Light and photos go hand in hand. When you work with soft light you will find that the object you are taking a photo of appears softer and it enhances its beauty. In hard light the flaws of the object are drawn out and this is not something that you want to portray to your customers. Once the light fades too much you will not be able to take photos. If you do then they will appear too dark and this is not something that appeals to many people.

There are certain rooms in the home that appeal to buyers more than others. Photos taken in these rooms make the entire home seem more appealing. When taking photos you should always take them of the best rooms in the house. These rooms often include the main bedroom and the kitchen.

If you find a space of particular interest in the home then you will want to take a photo of it. This could be a beautiful staircase or a fireplace that is unique. By showing these to prospective clients it might grab their interest and convince them to view the home. Once they have gone to this trouble they might be more inclined to buy it.

Make sure that every picture you take is appealing in some way. Every one of them should show off a unique aspect of the house. This is not as easy as it seems but with the right guidance it can be done. It will make you job of selling the home much easier in the long run.

The Complete Guide to Black & White Digital Photography (A Lark Photography Book) Review

This book is almost square, a fine format for displaying the well chosen images. It says "Black & White" but it also says "Complete Guide", and that's so true. Here you find a very methodic approach to this subject. Starting with simple straight forward color to B&W conversion and showing clearly that the simple way is quick and so dirty, Michael soon leads us into the world of creatively making what we want and how to tweak the image to get that result. Michael shows us (using Photoshop as main tool) step by step how to tackle the issues, from the color image itself via the conversion (tools) to processing the converted result. Other conversions (like duotones, InfraRed, solarization) are very well explained, in completely worked out examples. Likeable is that he really shows the different possiblities, sometimes to show that some ways are not producing top quality work, sometimes to show the choices, creative decisions you have to make for yourself. Plug-ins and other specialistic tools (for making digital look like film, for noise-reduction etc.) are nicely introduced, showing where, if and when they are needed.
The images are beautiful and to the point. The examples show that seeing in color is so different from seeing in B&W. Michael makes us aware of thinking beforehand in B&W, shown also in work made by the masters (Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and more). The Zone system is not left untouched in this book. If you think: B&W? Easy: desaturate, done. Then think again, from what you see here, you know this conversion can be done so much better. The displaying, mounting, presenting of the work are also covered. This really is a complete guide!
When you pick this up you have a very attractive book in your hands. Written for easy reference, no lengthy chapters, but concise and direct 2, 3 pages on each subject. And believe me, you want to pick up this book, time and time again, to become a master yourself, at least in the processing and finishing department.

Nikon D60 Digital Field Guide Review

I received the guide several weeks ago and have been using it ever since. I really like the fact that it is so well put together and easy to use. I am a novice to dSLR cameras having used a point and shoot forever. This guide has helped me so much I had to reccomend it to beginners like me, but also from my review of it I will be using it a long time to come. The information for using all the settings on the camera and learning the manual setting has been wonderful. I was really filled with anxiety at the prospect of using anything but auto. I jumped right in with fireworks and haven't looked back! I couldn't beleive fireworks was listed in the index and I took some great shots. I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and this is a great tool for anyone. The color examples on different shots really help you see the possibilities. Everything you need to know is in this guide, from lighting, to lenses. I don't even use the manual that came with my camera. The guide fits right into my case and is getting a workout. My camera really feels like a part of me now thanks to this guidebook instead of some foreign object. Everthing is becoming second nature and I couldn't be happier! HK
